FRIDAY, July 7 – 1:00 P.M. Friday Flicks at the COA: . – Eight Below. The most amazing story of survival, friendship and adventure. Call 508-888-4737 to sign up! Cost $1.00 & deadline to register and pay is Wed., July 5.

WEDNESDAY, July 12 – August 9 --- 10:00 a.m. - Noon POTTERY CLASS taught by Dianne Cole. This will be a five week series to be held at Ms. Cole’s studio in Sandwich. You will learn to: handbuild your project; to roll clay with roller; coil building; make functional items/gifts (vases, bowls of all kinds, planters, etc.); glaze or painting techniques. You will not use a wheel in this series of classes but this can be taught at a later time.

Ms. Cole promises you do not need to be artistic to learn and enjoy this craft.

The cost of this program is $90 for the series and all clay, glazing and firing are included.

Please contact the Sandwich COA at 508-888-4737 to register. Deadline to register and pay is July 6. This program is limited to a maximum of 8 adults. Please note – there are some stairs to walk down to the studio. Directions to the studio will be provided upon registration and payment.

TUESDAYS, ‘Focus on Healing’ Through Movement and Dance – the Lebed Method. 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

Session 1: July 11 – Aug. 1 -- $40

Session 2: Aug 8 – Aug 29 -- $40

This is a therapeutic exercise program for women who have had any kind of breast surgery, chemotherapy, lymph edema, Parkinson’s Disease, MS, arthritis, difficulty with mobility or posture or who suffer with chronic fatigue. It is FUN and EASY to do! Program is conducted by Mary Jane Doonan.  Registration and payment is due July 5 (for session 1) and August 2 for session 2. Contact the COA at 508-888-4737.

MONDAY, July 17 – 10:30 A.M. Women’s Discussion Group – RETIREMENT..THE EMOTIONAL JOURNEY. Join us for this ongoing program. Discussion will focus on Re-assessing and Evaluating…(the good, the bad, and the great!). Discussions will be positive and informative. Jeanne Dionne will be our group leader. Next session – August 7 -- will focus on clarifying values: Have I changed? The September 18 session will focus on re-discovering yourself.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 19 at 11:00 a.m. Free Cookout at the Council on Aging sponsored by the Sandwich COA, Sandwich Fire Department and TRIAD.

Epidemic, Pandemic, Hurricane Preparedness, Emergency Evacuation.  Lately we hear these words on the news. Would you know what to do in an emergency? Are you familiar with the town’s emergency preparedness plan? What supplies should you have on hand and where are the emergency shelters? Do you know what to do in the event of a hurricane and what to do with your pets? Did you know the town received a grant and the fire department has free smoke detectors with 10 year batteries to homes built before 1975? What exactly is TRIAD?

Please join us at the Council on Aging as JJ Burke, Fire Prevention Officer from the Sandwich Fire Department along with James Silva, Director of the town’s Emergency Planning Committee discuss these and other important issues.

Hamburgers, hot dogs, salad and desserts provided by the Fire Department and cooked by the Police Department, Served by TRIAD Members and Council on Aging Staff.

The presentation will begin at 11:00 a.m. followed by lunch at noon. Reservations required and deadline to sign up is July 12. Please call the Council at 888-4737 to reserve your spot.

FRIDAY, July 21 at 1:00 p.m. Friday Flicks at the COA -- FIREWALL. Harrison Ford – Everything a security officer loves is used against him. Call 508-888-4737 to sign up! Cost $1.00 and deadline to register and pay is Wednesday, July 12.

Tuesday, Aug. 1 – 29 YOGA 9:00 a.m. This is a great program and new students are always welcome.

Wednesday, August 2 at 1:30 p.m.  "AND NOW….MARK TWAIN!" A solo performance by Richard Clark.

A delightful look at the life and work of America’s foremost humorist. This one-person play is full of wit and wisdom and the special brand of storytelling that made him a legend in his time.  Mr. Clark has spent recent years professionally in New York theater and television. His credits include "The Kennedys of Massachusetts", "Guiding Light", "Saturday Night Live", and many regional theatre roles. 

We will be serving peach shortcake and iced tea. Cost for this performance is $5.00 per person and reservations and payment must be made by July 25.  We thank the Friends of Sandwich Council on Aging for helping to make this program possible.  Mark your calendars to take a break from the summer rush and join us!

Thursday, Aug. 3 – 31 CHAIR YOGA at 10:15 a.m. New students are always welcome!

Friday, August 4 at 1:00 p.m. Friday Flicks at the COA -- THE FAMILY STONE – Comedy, Sarah Jessica Parker, Diane Keaton—The new girlfriend is brought home for the holidays. Call the COA at 508-888-4737 to sign up. Cost is $1.00 and deadline to register and pay is August 2.

AMERICAN LEGION LOBSTER DINNER

Please note: Sandwich seniors only first week. (Proof of residency required.) All other seniors may purchase tickets the following week.

CHECKS ONLY PLEASE) MAKE PAYABLE TO "AMERICAN LEGION POST 188". No cash will be accepted. First come, first served. The Legion will be serving chowder, lobster, corn on the cob, cole slaw and watermelon. Bring your own lobster cracking utensils! Tickets are available at the Council on Aging during the following days and times ONLY. No exceptions can be made and no telephone reservations will be taken.

Friday, August 18 at 1:00 p.m. Friday Flicks at the COA -- MUNICH. Steven Spielberg delivers an explosive thriller set in the aftermath of the murders at the 1972 Munich Olympics.
